Note from the Editors — Winter 2021

Detail of Golab by Sophie Levy

Detail of Golab by Sophie Levy

This winter, we are pleased to feature the voices of ten outstanding contributors. Discussing such topics as the intersection between Mizrahiut and post-Soviet anthropology, trans experience, cinema, and Latin American migration, the works included in our Winter 2021 release examine facets of Middle-Eastern Jewish life previously undiscussed at ZAMAN. It means a lot to us to have the engagement of readers and contributors across the world who push our publication toward a place of greater breadth and dimension with each issue.

We would like to thank Lior Sternfeld, Ryan Zohar, Tannaz Sassooni, Mika Benesh, Kyle Newman, Alan Niku, Marcus Mubarack, Cengiz Cemaloglu, Tom Haviv, Kayla Cohen, and New Voices Magazine for the time and effort they put into their contributions to this issue. We cannot thank Judith Shophet Sidkoff and Kate McMorrow enough for their generosity; you have helped our publication establish itself formally and reach a degree of security and professionalism that we could not have achieved on our own. We are grateful to our friends, professors, and readers for their endless support, and thank our families for bearing with our hours-long editing marathons and for bringing us cardamom tea with dates.

Please feel free to contact us if you are interested in collaborating with ZAMAN or submitting work for consideration in our upcoming Summer release. We hope you enjoy this issue and wish you all the best.

Warmly,

Sophie Levy and Evan Mateen
